Pistol Annies bandmate Diane Warren shares secrets to working with four women.

Diane Warren is known for crafting love songs, such as Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” and Ariana Grande’s “The Way.” But in her band The Pistol Annies, Warren wrote holiday songs that are equally as good, if not better. It’s a record that aims to capture the down-home spirit of a holiday without all the fun of being at a mall or in a showroom of a store.

Pistol Annies’ first full-length Christmas album, “The Christmas That Was,” features ten original songs that tell a tale of the roots of love. It’s also all in all a triumphant and joyful affair, with Warren’s own handiwork, mixed with fiddles, steel drums, mandolins, horns and harp.

“We just felt like we had to make a record to celebrate the holiday,” Warren said. “Christmas is such a personal thing. It’s something that people have a tremendous attachment to. And it’s such a very intimate time of year.”
